Saturday AM motivation

Have you ever noticed that it’s easier to get moving when there’s something there to motivate you?

Case in point:

I’ve been looking in my laundry room recently.  I mean, looking in there and then turning right back around and walking away.  I’ve been hoping for some inspiration to strike me as I darkened its door. I have gone so far as to separate the laundry into its appropriate piles…Towels, darks, lights, etc.  Baby steps.

Blah, blah, blah…I know that I rant about my laundry “problem” a lot, but it’s one of my (many) continuing stumbling blocks to domestic happiness.  (Question:  What part of me thinks that laundry is one of those tasks that you do it once and then you don’t have to do it again for a long time?  Answer:  The crazy, in denial, delusional, part.)

My laundry room is probably the room in my house that I both love the best, and hate the most.  I hate it because it is the room that causes me the most distress and I love it because it really is a great laundry room, as laundry rooms go.  It has a nice big closet in there and a tile floor.  It has a long rod in there to hang up your “non-dryer” items.  It has a sink in there, with some storage both above and below. And it has a toilet.

Herein lies my motivation.

I go “look” in my laundry room this morning for my sports bra, which has been hung up to dry, because it is delicate.  (I’m going to make the most of this beautiful day and get out there and get moving.  But I’ve got to contain the girls.)  So, in my sock feet, I enter the abyss that is the laundry room to retrieve said sports bra, and lo and behold! I step in something wet.  Something wet. Hmmmm…

Right near the toilet.

Right near the pile of towels waiting to be washed.

I look at the floor.

I look at the toilet.

For those of you who are squeamish, I won’t go into any great detail.  But let me just say, the toilet had overflowed.  And, upon examination, for good reason.

Suddenly, I have all the motivation I need to wash some towels and declutter the laundry room.  Frankly, I am actually pretty glad I had NOT washed them.  Towels are very absorbent, you know.

“The secret of getting ahead is getting started, breaking your complex overwhelming tasks into small manageable tasks and then starting on the first one.” ~Mark Twain

HEAD LICE UPDATE:  After allowing a couple of days to pass, and upon thorough examination by the school nurse yesterday, Emma is delared lice-free.  Didn’t have to RID X after all–but glad I have lice killing shampoo on hand, just in case!  You never know!

    Hi Joell,
    Thanks for the nice comment!
So, you are from Iowa, eh? Reminds me of a short and sweet song a gal from Dubuque taught me once. I\’m from the Eastern Seaboard (New England), but met this gal in Mexico in college days. She soon became a best friend and I use to love to listen to her sing it. I enjoyed it so much, I have the tune committed to memory. Here goes:
    Oh Dubuque, Oh Dubugue ..
How you make me shiver ..
With your nice clean streets ..
    And your Mississippi River ..
    Oh Dubuque!
    Oh Dubuque!
    Oh Dubuque!
    On the river!

It is very good that the towels hadn\’t been washed.  Oh my goodness the mess!
I am envious of your laundry room.  I have two double doors hiding mine.  I have a dream of one day having a large house with a big laundry room.  I think it\’s neat and sad that I have that dream.  Neat in the fact that it would be cool to have a large laundry room and sad that in my big house I\’m thinking about doing laundry… anyway.
    I like your site.

Yikes!  That is a reason to get moving, isn\’t it!  The Hub and I did the mother-lode of laundry ourselves.  I just have too many darn clothes.

Laundry is the bane of my existence!!!!  I wish I could be MORE anal about it, but it just makes me want to run the other way!!
You are probably a neat freak because you are showing your house and have to keep it clean all the time…hmmm maybe that\’s the ticket???
Good luck with the van shopping!!  3.9% is a GREAT deal!!
PS I now have lots of clean towels!!  hee hee

With only 3 people in our house it seems like the laundry is never-ending!  🙂  But, I\’m a little anal because as soon as it comes out of the dryer I fold it and put it away… I\’ve turned in to a SUPER neat freak for some reason… some days I wish the "old" me returned… even just for a day!  hehehehe
By the way…. Honda is offering NEW Odyssey\’s for 3.9% financing for 60 months!  I\’m thinking about going up there today to see if they have any Silver one\’s.  I love my van, but not the color… it\’s light blue.  I\’m not a big blue fan!  Hopefully I could get a new one for the same price since the financing is so great!
    Hugs -Tiffany

I always love hearing from you! :-)
