Another week…how does this happen? It just whizzes by. My grandma warned me about this. About 20 years ago now, she and I were having a chat and I said, “Grandma, seems like the years go by faster the older I get!” She said, in her very Southern Grandma way, “Honey, wait till you’re old as me. Life is just one big ole blur!” She is now 93 years young! And she is hilarious! I am thankful for her sense of humor. I honestly think she has gotten funnier with age. No, she is not senile—she’s just like a fine wine, getting better with age, I reckon.
I am thankful for Emma’s continued improvement. If her chasing her daddy around the kitchen two nights ago is any indication, I’d say she’s just about 100%. I am also thankful that she is very nearly completely caught up with the schoolwork she missed while she was recuperating from her Close Encounter of the Reptile Kind. Did I mention that I hate snakes? Now more than ever.
I am thankful for a movie date night with my two guys last night. (Emma got a better offer from the BFF.) We went to see the new Thor movie. Chris Hemsworth is quite lovely. There was the obligatory abs and chest shot. Completely unnecessary, but greatly appreciated, I am sure, by all the ladies who were attending at the request of their menfolk. I think I speak for all of us, when I say, thanks, Mr. Director, for thinking of us girls.
I am happy to be on the homeschool prom committee again this year. I know, maybe that sounds crazy to some of you who have at some time served on such a committee. I was happy to be involved last year, especially since it was Jacob’s senior year and secretly (or not-so-secretly) I wanted to be on the committee so that a) Jacob would go and b) I would be helping at the prom the night of the event so I could make sure Jacob was okay and enjoying the evening. I dragged Clyn in on it as well. It was a big win all the way around. Jacob and his lovely date (his friend, Rebecca) had a great time with their group of friends. Clyn had fun. And I had a blast. It was a lot of work, but what made it so fun was the ladies on the committee. Many of them are serving again this year and I am so thankful for the friendships I gained, and deepened, and I am hopeful that we will able to put on another fantastic night for the kids who will be attending this year. I was happy to be able to get back to the gym this morning! I have missed the last couple of weeks of my beloved WERQ class because of the whole snake bite business and then Clyn had a foot issue as well and I needed to drive him to the doctor, as his driving foot was the problem. (Nothing serious, mostly annoying to him.) AND then my gym went and switched one of the classes I used to go to, to a day and time that I cannot go, so that kinda threw me off schedule as well. Anyway, I am glad to get back on track!
I am thankful for our weekly Saturday Chick-Fil-A trips. It is something we usually do as a family and we sit there and eat our “Chick’n” and chat about our plans for the day. Jacob inevitably removes his straw paper, twists it into a small projectile, puts it in his straw and blows, usually shooting it at his sister—which is funny (to the rest of us, not to Emma). We go pretty nearly every Saturday…enough so that they don’t ask us for a name for our order anymore. They already know it. When Emma and I have been out doing some shopping and we are meeting Clyn and Jacob there, the kid who is taking our order will say, “Will the guys be in today?” They know us. We know them. Traditions are nice.

Sorry to hear about the snake bite 😦 I don’t think I ever read about it, but I’m really glad she is recovering from it. I am not too keen with snakes either.
Sounds like you had a fun time with family. I really want to see Thor 2 in the theaters, but need to catch the Ladyfolk up with the first one… and I’d prefer catching her up with all the super hero movies that are tied in together lol No worries, she has expressed wanting to see them, so it isn’t being forced upon her! About Thor, though, I honestly see more people posting about the actor playing Loki as a heartthrob over Hemsworth.
Speaking of Ladyfolk I noticed you used Menfolk. I was always conflicted and think I opted to use Gentlemanfolk to follow suit with the whole Ladies and Gentlemen doohickey. Either way, I thought it was cool you used that term lol
Family traditions like your Chick-Fil-A (somewhere I still have to try out) are great. Even better when it’s at an eatery like that and the employees and/or owners get to know you. Maybe you will build up to All-Star Celeb status with them 🙂

I do recommend Thor! We had intended to see Ender’s Game, since my son has read that book series and really enjoyed it, but they had a 5 pm show and then a 10:30 pm show!! What us up with that? So we had to bail on that and go see Thor at 8 instead. I am okay with how things played out! LOL!
I have thought about Emma and that snake bite all week! Then went to the high school play, and wouldn’t you know, there was a snake in a cage as part of the set. I kept a very close eye on it, believe-you-me!
The years DO seem to fly by the older I get. I remember being a kid and each school year seemed a lifetime in length! My grandma got funnier as she got older, too. Maybe they just figure they’ve got nothing to lose and might as well just say what they want.

Your weekly Chick-fil-a trip sounds really lovely. I used to hate family times, because they were enforced farce, but when they’re done properly and for real, with everyone wanting to be there, they sound really good.
Also, the straw thing is being done wrong. NO TWISTING! NO REMOVING! Just rip about an inch off the end of the wrapper, put to your lips and blow – it’s a FAR better projectile.
Glad that Emma’s doing better. Still a really horrible thing to have to recover from!

We have been known to call our outings “Mandatory Family Fun” on occasion! LOL. In jest, of course.
And, believe me, Jacob has shot his straw paper that way too, but the twisting seems to be the most popular and apparently most annoying to Emma and therefore, the way he does it most often! LOL

There are some good ones out now. My daughter and her best friend and I are going to the Catching Fire premiere this week!! SO EXCITED! When we went to see Thor, there was a preview for the next Hobbit movie which we are really looking forward to seeing, as well.

yeah that time accelerating thing? man, have they got that backwards or what? (what’s the old saying, ‘youth is wasted on the young’). I had a client once who was a mathematician and somehow we go on the subject to time speeding up with increasing age and his take on it was something about how when you’re 5 years old, a year goes by slowly because it is, in fact, 20% of your entire life, while when you are 90 years old, it is only …1/100 (?…that doesn’t sound right) but you get the idea.

We do participate in a (fantastic!) co-op. We started there the year we started homeschooling–which was when Jacob started 9th grade. He graduated last year (2013), but I decided to keep teaching and since he does not have college classes on co-op day, he comes to help me, which is awesome! The co-op only offers classes. Classes for every age from pre-k -12th grade in every subject area. The co-op was a fantastic addition to homeschool experience! I am so grateful for the people there who had such wisdom to share! Some of whom, I am sure, will be in our lives forever!
The co-op is not affiliated with the prom, however. The prom is done through our local support group which consists of around 300 families in our area. The support group also puts on a graduation each year, hosts a yearbook, a student council, tons of field trips, monthly meetings and lots and lots of other great stuff.
Oh, I almost forgot to tell you. I once heard “Life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer you get to the end, the faster it goes.” Cracks me up, but totally matches what your grandma was getting at!

Your Chick-fil-a Saturdays sound like our Steak-n-shake Fridays. The people know to give us one spoon with our shakes, and they get nervous when we don’t order the same number one week.
Haha! You should order different stuff just to confuse them! 😉 I believe a Steak-n-Shake opened somewhere around here fairly recently, but not really close to my house…We have a Cook-Out and a Five Guys close to us, both of which we enjoy a great deal! Cook-Out has fantastic milkshakes!
So glad to hear that Emma is recovering so well – it’s a scary thing when something like that happens, isn’t it?

The family get-together over a meal out is something I miss doing, now my girl spends so much time travelling – glad you are all able to still enjoy it 🙂

We are hanging on to the family outings as long as we can! The kids are going to be grown here very soon! Making the most of it! Life is a big old blur, like my grandma said, so I know our time of everyone being under one roof is rapidly coming to a close!
Yes, that’s a hard one to get used to. 😦
We only have the one chick, so encouraging her to go out there and make the most of what she can do was the hardest thing we’ve ever done, I think – but it has been paid back to us in spades, as we see our girl grow and develop into a wonderful woman, who is confident enough in herself to go and grab what she really wants to do, and make a success of it!
I guess that is the wonderful consolation that you, as parents, can look forward to 🙂
I love family times – like movie night, and family traditions – like Saturday lunch out together. These are the times that kids look back on and remember most fondly. Sounds like you have many good things going in your life this week! Me, I’d personally be extremely thankful to never see another snake. Beautiful they may be, but I just can’t get past that sinister reputation, and the fact that they can move so quickly without any feet! 🙂
We are blessed to have kids who have not yet decided to completely shun us! LOL! We do enjoy hanging out together.
